Airport Dress Code

Does anyone remember when we used to dress for the flight? Probably the same folks who recall free tv.

As I sit in the airport waiting I am people watching. It is amazing the garb these folks don for the flight. So many wear those jeans with holes . Aren’t they cold? I would be. Then there are those with tattered shirts. I guess that matches the holey jeans. Honestly, we need a dress code here.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day

St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland. His feast day is celebrated on March 17th, his date of death. He was born somewhere in the British Isles around 400 AD. There he spent much of his life until being captured by Irish pirates and sold into slavery for 6 years. Once free he became an Irish missionary and is credited with banishing snakes from Ireland and converting the Irish to Christianity.

Much lore is associated with this Saint and facts difficult to ascertain. This was relayed to me when I visited the Down Cathedral in Northern Ireland dedicated to the Saint. In the Cathedral cemetery he has a plot where some of his ruins are presumed interred.

While pictures of Saint Patrick often depict him in fine garments, during this era his dress would have been more of a toga or Barbarian type costume. His Cathedral is impressive and if you get the chance also stop by the Inch Abbey, a Benedictine Monastery in ruins which overlooks the Down area.

So, raise a glass, wear the green and enjoy the day devoted to this beloved Saint!

Then they came for me..

Fifteen years ago, my daughter, a communication major, wrote her final college paper on how American owned television stations in South America selected news to influence this population. Her professor was enlightened by her work but warned not to go further with this as she’d never get a job in her field.

As I flip through my Yahoo News I see how what she wrote 15 years ago has affected me. Everyday I receive unsolicited news based on algorithms of what I’ve purchased or previewed in my use of the web. It limits my view of the world.

Oddly, my eyes woke to this when I was attempting to get a time slot on one of the prime Disneyworld venues. Since I was unable to acquire the prime seat I selected a less popular venue. After this Yahoo News barraged me with articles on the glories of this less popular venue. Sorry Yahoo News but this brainwashing only added insult to injury.

In the past I have tried to shut off this phone news without success. I tire of royal updates and since I watched Meghan Markle’s wedding Yahoo gives me full updates on each time she sneezes. I would not want to be in her shoes.

If anyone knows how this can be blocked please let me know. These articles have gone too far and reminds me of what occurred in Hitler’s time. I wish I encouraged my daughter to proceed with her work as they are now coming for me.

The Ides of March

Did you ever hear this expression? In researching Mother Google it states it is a date on the Roman calendar in 44 B.C. where Julius Caesar was assassinated. (And all you millennials out there thought Caesar was only a wrap or a salad.) This changed the course of Roman history and is quoted famously in Shakespeare’s play to beware the Ides of March.

Perhaps we could have a copy of the Mueller Report published on this day. It certainly would be appropriate.

Dads and Adult Daughters

I guess I’m old fashioned, but am pondering these questions…..
  1. Is it okay for dads to take pictures of their adult daughters in their underwear?
  2. Is it okay for dads to approve of others when they call their daughter a piece of ass?
  3. Should adult daughters be sitting on their father’s lap?

Talk Slower

Last year I was on a plane where the flight attendant spoke so fast I could not understand what he said and I needed the information. As I departed I asked politely if he could speak slower and the information he relayed. His response was rude and quite frankly the theme of the customer always being right isn’t in this airlines customer service playbook. As you can tell it is an airline which I abhor but shall remain nameless.

In plays on Broadway I have also found this the case. During one play I left with a migraine as I strained to understand the characters dialogue and songs of the show. The tickets still go for $400 a seat so my comment won’t affect its legacy. I guess it is me. But I wonder do others have the same concern?

Hillary’s Not Running..

And I can see why. It takes much courage to run and I applaud all those who do. I recall two incidents on US 1 in Florida at a traffic light mid day as I write this entry. They need to be told and occurred due to a bumper sticker where I supported my candidate.

In the first incident a man in a truck pulled beside me and began to scream at me that Hillary was a c–t, bitch and how she should be locked up. His rants continued the entire time I was stopped at the light. I rolled up the window and prayed he would not leave his vehicle and injure me but I left the sticker on my bumper.

A week later the same thing happened only this time it was 4 young adult men riding free style in the back of a pick up truck verbally attacking me and my candidate. At one point spit was done but missed my vehicle as the same sentiments were expressed.

People I’ve relayed this to have said why didn’t you take a picture of the license plates? Well, quite frankly I froze. I was terrified. Several things run through my mind as I ponder this – why was I attacked? Was it because Hillary was running as a woman? Was it over the email server dispute? Ivanka has done the same if not worse and her husband regularly communicates with the Prince of Saudi Arabia on the What’s Up Ap. That’s not secure. And we’ll never know what Donald Trump actually spoke to or continues to talk to Putin about.

All I wonder is, where would our country be now if Hillary was elected president? Would we be working on immigration reform, fixing our infrastructure, tax reform to pay for our overwhelming debt or climate change legislation? We may never know but all we have is a country stuck in conversations where we are not moving forward.

Has Trump made our country any better? I think not, he’s only made us more divided as his rants encourage this divide and hate of each other. It’s time we come together as a nation, embrace and encourage positive change and say no to the hate.

Get out and Register to Vote

Electronic voting on a mobile phone. In this case the phone has two options, red and blue, white a white elephant and a donkey.

This is an open call for action! After watching the hooligans of the 2018 elections I am asking all to start the process now, yes NOW. I know it’s early but by the time “they” play around with the spelling of your name and other antics it will be 2020 and you know what that means. So, make a call, check the web site, find a post office, get the paperwork done and then VOTE…..

Post Thai Diet: The Mediterranean Way….

I stepped on the scale today after enjoying my amazing Thai food adventures. EECK!!! I am up several pounds and my knees are calling to me, “Kathleen, it is time to get these # off….” I have succumbed and am working successfully on this as I continue my adherence to the Mediterranean diet.

This lovely blend of fish, fruits, vegetables, nuts, olive oil and red wine have been my main stay of keeping me erect and mobile for several years now. That along with daily Classical Stretch exercises are my secret.

An acquaintance recently said you don’t like fat people, and in some ways she has a point. However, it is more that when I see these enormous folk my heart cries. I know their pain and what upsets me even more is the obese children they are raising. As a fat child growing up in a thin culture in the 60’s I was ridiculed daily and that mental debasing is still with me. However, now that I am an average weight the obese folks hate me or rather are jealous of me. Go figure, I guess I’ll never win.
