While in Boston I received a text from the well driller stating, “Can I drill tomorrow?” Much to my amazement I returned home to find my yard in disarray and a foreign object in the spot where we had discussed a well could be drilled.
It has now been 5 days since my return and while I texted him, “Thank you,” I have received no further communication.
Boston is a great city, and the cleanest I’ve ever visited, but found myself lacking in things to do. There were no theaters or museums left for me to see which I haven’t already.
The Museum of Fine Arts is spectacular.
As is the Museum of Science..
Cambridge
And there is a Fine Arts Museums at Tufts which I’m sure is equally grand as Harvard’s, however, quite frankly I was museum’d out, if there is such a word..
So when I saw the Expedia tour for Martha’s Vineyard at $179., I joined on..
Started the day leaving at 615 from Btown. Then a short 90 minute jaunt with 12 senior ladies from all parts of the world.
What a beautiful drive down the coast and through Falmouth, one of the most elegant and expensive towns of the Cape. Homes start at $800,000. If only..
Stopped at a lighthouse on the edge of town.
View from the lighthouse..
Then on to the boat, the Martha’s Vineyard, for a 40 minute ride across the sea..
What a fun ride only $10.50 each way!
Next joined Tom, a native, for a phenomenal tour. He gave so much information and insights into the isle that my cup overflowed.
Martha has been around over 10,000 years with Indians inhabiting it. Indians still remain and very happy to hear they have been given much protection. They now are considering building a casino on island. And while locals are adverse to this, they have little say.
One of the oldest homes on the isle
This home is one of the religious communities homes. They still come and summer here having their own police and fire department.
After The World War much of the isle was left and African Americans came and bought the homes which were abandoned. These folks remain passing their homes down to future generations.
Another religious community home
The likes of black politicians, actors, and sports figures, own these homes. And our guide Tom stated there are amazing Juneteenth celebrations in this area.
Next on to Edgartown
Town Hall
And oh the shops readying for the influx of tourists.,
And the gardens
Do some rocking or,
sit awhile.,What a tree! Rentals go for $10,000. a weekMore Pristine ShopsAnd the sea at the end of the street..
From here we passed where the Obama’s had their home as well as the likes of Ted Danson and Jackie O. The area is filled with celebrity, and notables, and our guide Tom knew all.
He and his family had even stayed at the White House on four separate occasions while President Clinton was in office.
But for me the high point of our tour was the bluffs..
Reminds me of the California coast Beyond Words
This was the quickest 3 hour tour I had ever been on. Wish I could have captured more pictures. Once back at the boat area had some delicious fish at this spot..
And enjoyed the walk back to the boat as I passed this scene..
While all the artifacts were replicas a true vision of the works was seen.
As the placards mentioned most of these antiquities are spread through the world in various museums. Also they were broken apart due to the weight of transport.
Let’s explore..
This is the chair of Queen Heterpese recreated by Harvard staff.
Another beautiful replica
And the chair of King Tut, frontand back. This is a bit more masculine in feature with strong woods and marble inlay.Canopic Jar
These held the bodily organs of the deceased and were maintained in the tombs with the departed.
.
Several amazing sarcophagus were on exhibit. Always amazed how the colors stay so vibrant. On the first floor is a reconstructed home of an agricultural family in this area from 1000 B.C.
There is also a Peabody Museum of Natural History on this street, however I was museum’d out by this time, and entrance fee $16. Have heard it is equally amazing.
Our delightful guide, Reed, from Oklahoma. He is a second year Harvard student studying economics with aspirations for a legal career which is all but certain. Too cute! The “pearly gates” but no pearls.
Reed told us there is a “curse” to these gates. Students are only to go through them on their first day. and then upon graduation to ensure good luck.
All must know as saw only the side entrance used.
🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
The Gate House inside the gates is the most expensive piece of Harvard property as it had to be historically correct. It cost $57 grand by the time all parties approved the plans, and it was built. This is where the Harvard president lives. Each year the president hand picks 15 students to live in his home for their freshman year. The front of the homeHarvard – was begun 153 years before the constitution in 1636 and in 1638 Harvard, a farmer, gave his land and book collection for the university if they named the university after him, which they did. The statute is a rendering of an unknown as all pictures of Harvard were lost in a fire along with his book collection.
However, if you touch the toe of the Harvard statue good luck is to fall upon you. And truth be told something very lucky 🍀 fell to me hours after touching his toe.

There was so much shared on this tour, and Reed was phenomenal. This young man fromOklahoma will be lighting the world on fire 🔥 someday soon. Above is the dorm where Zuckerberg created Facebook. When he was in Boston he knocked on his former dorm room for another look 👀 saying hello, and signing the desk where Facebook was created.Natalie Portman and Matt Damon’s dorm, however, Matt did not graduate, but Natalie did.National Lampoon House – oh the stories told about Conan O Brien and his tenure here. Another Harvard grad and Mark Twain award recipient. See the recent show for a 🦉.
What an amazing tour and what lucky young folks to have this opportunity!
Since I knew I would be exploring Harvard University decided to arrive early to check out other attractions nearby. Found this lovely park and statue from the Prime Minister of Ireland.
And a tribute to the Union soldiers with Grant and Lincoln represented.
The area held many churches.
Along with cemeteries filled with fallen soldiers and early Americans.
Christ Church
Beautiful interior
Display on front lawn – The Red Dress Project honors murdered and missing indigenous women and girls. There are thousands of girls and women missing throughout the world.
Not only was today Cinco de Mayo it was also a playoff game for the Celtics. What a season of green folks had donned for their team!
They sure take their sports 🏀 seriously
And once through the crowds found..
Walked about buying Italian cookies 🍪 and checking out the area.
Meals run about $30., and all looked sublime…
Famous Regina’s pizza 🍕 But wasn’t in the mood for 🍕 So settled on a small placeEggplant over ziti- yum!
Then checked out St Leonard’s prayer garden..
And the church..
Next Faneuil Hall..
They are updating..And Quincy Market
And back through the North End
Don’t forget Boston is on the sea..Paul Reveres home and across the street a Park dedicated to to Rachel Revere – nice touch. And a final goodbye to the North End..
