Syracuse State Fair

To the Fair

Started my day early as the trek to the Fair was 3 hours. However, the time went quickly as NPR was available the entire route. Don’t you just love NPR? I hope Judy Woodruff is enjoying her retirement. What a mountain of learning you achieve from that valuable resource!

On to the Fair..

So much to see and do..

Haven’t been in 15 years but somethings never change, and when it’s quality glad it doesn’t.

It was Beef Day at the Fair and started my visit with the Highland Cows. What gorgeous animals, had only seen them in Scotland, but a couple who came from Canada 🇨🇦 were showing these beauties.

What color, wish I could find a hair dye that color.
Another guy, check out those hooves.
Beef Benefits

And a few jokes..

And they had an area for cows in waiting and a nursery.

Moms to be
Babes

Then on to see goats getting a trim, they weren’t too happy on this.

Next The Indian Village

Did some retail damage here but always want to support indigenous folk. We certainly gave them much heartache stealing their lands.

Native Crafts

Bead Jewelry
🧺 weaving
Making a log 🛶
Rebuilding the historic long house

At the 4H Building some fascinating things are going on..

An idea for my next birdhouse – who thought to use popsicle sticks.

Got to hold a baby chick 🐤 so soft
And in a Rochester Middle School this is what is going on in their after school program- robotics!

The horses 🐎 and horse shows were fun to watch.

These guys came from Michigan for the festivities
Horse Show

Along the way the military was on display. Such interesting vehicles.

430,000 and that doesn’t include the electrical add ons
This was the Army, but all branches were present.
Girls Basketball drew quite a crowd. Guess this is really catching on. Long overdue.

Food Court

The Butter Sculptures
Chocolate Chips in a Cone
The Milk Booth. Four glasses for a $, chocolate or white, strawberry 🍓 served the last 5 days of the Fair.
And one more Food Court besides the Midway!

New York is becoming quite the whiskey 🥃 brewing State. Several vendors were prompting their wares.

My favorite was the alcohol 🥃 infused fudge! It also came infused with Chablis.

From here spent much time at the Cornell Master Garden exhibit.

Here I took a class on how to grow better tomatoes and composting. I even received one of the tan containers seen on the tables as a gift which I am now using to begin composting.

Vital Resources

Can’t leave without showing the flower displays..

But my main focus was to find ideas on what to plant to deter those hungry deer 🦌. Received much information and already have made many purchases.

Some other pics..

These pesky fellas flew all over and gave quite a show.

Quilts on display

What an amazing and fun day!

And as with all good things they come to an end.

A nurse I work with who has been very helpful and I respect a great deal called needing someone to work for her the following day. She had a family emergency.

So I departed at 6pm.

That said there were many free musical 🎵 venues throughout the day and in the evening. Plus, seniors got in free! So, the days was quite a deal.

What can I say?

I love New York!
