Kykuit

This is the home of the Rockefeller’s till 1979, when Vice President Nelson Rockefeller turned the home into a Museum for all to enjoy. It is frozen in time to this year, and a true delight to visit.

My tour guide was the first guide ever hired and what a wealth of knowledge. She has taken many of the Rockefeller family members through the estate as well as dignitaries.

I had been decades earlier, and heard more of the home had been opened to the public so decided to revisit.

It was a 3 hour tour for $75., however, well worth the price. No photos of the interior of the home is allowed so only pictures of the grounds are included in this blog.

This statute welcomes you to the home.
The entrance gates

The art begins – Nelson Rockefeller was a collector of all art but modern art was his forte. His mother, Abby, was a founder of MOMA in NYC. She was also a collector of American folk art and those interested in this should visit her museums in Williamsburg, Va.. This is the largest collection of American folk art in the world.

Our guide to the left – what a knowledgeable gal.

The home is simple yet elegant and the tour also includes much of Nelson’s modern art work. There are Warhol’s and a room of Picasso’s in the home.

What an amazing day!
