Lee Hall

Traveled to Newport News, Virginia, discovering two colonial architectural gems of a bygone era.

Lee Hall front and back views
What a spectacular home.

In 1840 this land was received as an inheritance to Richard Decateur Lee. He was at 23 at the time. While the farm soil was depleted Lee studied and instituted practices to replenish the soil. He revolutionized farming with crop rotation and fertilization practices to re-energize the land. Later he increased his 500 acres to 2100 through purchase and planted trees on most of the property.

The farm was productive growing wheat which he used in his grist mill. The animals he maintained created dairy products such as butter and their coats made wool. He also was community magistrate. What a career!

Working in conjunction with his wife, Martha, who was a widow with two sons at the time of the marriage, the farm prospered. Seven more children were born from the union with four surviving till adulthood.

Just prior to the beginning of the Civil War their Lee Hall Home was completed, however, for safety reasons the family evacuated to Raleigh where Richard obtained a magistrate position. During the War the home was used briefly as military headquarters for Confederate troops.

Upon return from the War Mr. Lee repurchased the land however was unable to sustain the property due to many factors. Sadly, they moved to a property his wife obtained as an inheritance leaving the beautiful home empty for many years.

Today restored to period era the home is a treasure with sunny windows, lovely wallpaper, a gracious dining room, and musical instruments. It is a must see and with a combination ticket tourists can also visit Endview Plantation, and the Virginia War Museum. Price wise this is a steal and an excellent way to enjoy your day in Newport News.

Tr Security: What does it cost US?

  • Conservative judges.
  • Wall Funding.
  • He made $333 million extra when he passed that new federal income tax law.
  • Security Coverage – exorbitant cost and American taxpayers are blocked from this information. Here’s my numbers for a couple NYC properties he owns.

On my recent NYC visit I passed “the tower.” Surrounding it were 4 police spires all manned. After counting 12 police vehicles in all shapes and sizes I stopped counting.. Each vehicle would have 2 officers so at least 24 a shift plus 4 towers with relief, another 8 officers. We are up to 32 officers, then as I past the street entrance to the lobby another 2 officers were at this entrance in riot gear. Do the math and round up, 35 officers x 3 shifts =105 cops for someone who isn’t even there.

Then I walked to Columbus Circle where Trump International Hotel lies, 6 vehicles using the same staffing ratio 2 per car making 12 per shift x 3 shifts = 36 cops.

Sum it up 36 + 105 = 141

Cops with overtime make 100 a year easily

So…

141 x 100,000. = 14 million to guard 2 properties

Multiply this by the rest of the “family” and we’re probably into the billions. We should probably have the Army cover as it would be cheaper.

Caveat: Betsy Voss, billionaire and education czar who cancels all those Obama loan relief programs for students.. her security cost $26 million over 4 years. That’s a lot of student loans we could cancel. What a waste.

It’s Kathleen and if you don’t like what I say it’s still Kathleen.

Congratulations, Joe

The People have spoken in this Super Tuesday vote. While always a fan of Mike B. for what he did for New York City and the world we must band together to defeat Trump. As I made calls for Mike B support at his headquarters in Hampton, Virginia I heard this again and again from those I spoke with. “We are waiting to decide who to support and will go with the majority.”

We need Joe Biden’s steady hand. He may have gaffes, but he will put the right folks in place and world leaders know him.

Florida Ballot Return

My absentee ballot for the Florida primary was returned. Either my signature was problematic or exterior envelope not signed. The paperwork to do this adjustment required completion of a form, a valid id and another voter registration card completed. All this was emailed.

As I completed the paperwork I realized this was the first time I recall voting in a primary though enrolled for 4 years. To receive the ballot I called the county directly and it arrived promptly. Wonder why it never came those other years.

Oh, government, where would we be without it?

Super Tuesday

Today is the day and as I write I feel enthusiasm to the bone. By end of day we should know who the big winners and lesser winners are. Thank you Pete and Amy for bowing out and supporting your heart. While I adore what Mike B. has done for the country and world Joe is my second pick. As long as it isn’t BS or Tr.

So, get out there and vote!

CoronaVirus Prevention

As a former New Yorker I am a fan of everything Cuomo. I receive Governor Andrew’s email monthly and his periodic updates. This morning he sent out simple steps to garnish the spread of COVID-19 and here they are:

Prevention:   There are simple steps we can all take to stop the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory viruses.

Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.

Avoid close contact with people who are sick.

Stay home when you are sick.

Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue. And let me add if a tissue is unavailable sneeze into your elbow.

Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces, like your cell phone.

New Yorkers can call the Department of Health’s coronavirus hotline at 1-888-364-3065 with any concerns about symptoms or travel. In addition, visit the Department of Health’s dedicated website for more resources and updates about COVID-19.   We expect there to be more positive cases, but rest assured that New York State is taking all necessary actions to contain the potential spread of this virus.   Ever Upward,   Governor Andrew M. Cuomo

Trump ads for Bernie Sanders

I can hear the Tr ads of hate if BS gets the Dem nod. He’ll confuse socialism with communism threatening BS will make us all commies. That will ensure 4 more years of Trump bad decisions. Fear sells.

That’s why we need Mike B. as our Democratic candidate.

Capitalism works.

We need a real candidate for this election to help solve our issues. Enough craziness. Climate change is here with horrific snowstorms, hurricanes, earthquakes and volcanoes. Mike is special envoy to the UN for climate change. He’s spent millions to keep us involved internationally in this crisis.

With gun control he began Moms against Gun Violence, increased health care reach to NYC citizens, the Greenwood Initiative for blacks, plans for seniors to stay in their homes.. Mike has plans for all of these.

Mike knows what to do and can get it done.

Give him your vote on Super Tuesday.

We need him. Give him a call.

Good bye, Pete

Was good to have Pete in the race but ever better for him to know when to leave. Thanks, Pete for being gracious and departing so you can assist in the ultimate goal:

Beating Donald Trump.

Throw your support to someone who can beat Donald Trump.

Your time will come Pete and I look forward to it.
