Denver at Christmas

Denver has a robust downtown with many shops and restaurants. It definitely is a young person’s town and has much to offer. During my Christmas visit in early December the City was gleaming with decorations. Here are some I wish to share.

There is a free trolley along the shop route.

Denver, Colorado

This is a blog about what I do.

Arrived early in Denver and stopped first at Union Station. This railroad station has much history with soldiers departing for war from this site. It is beautiful and stately, a must see on your Denver visit. The architecture breath taking.

With train reservation confirmed I checked into my hotel. Zephyr departure is early so stay in a nearby hotel. Sadly, while my hotel was nearby and had lovely floor to ceiling windows with friendly staff I cannot recommend it. There is a historic hotel in Union Station which I am told is sublime.

Since little was open decided to take a bus through the City to explore various sites. A view from the State Capitol from the bus.

The State Capitol

The State Capitol was not open for tours as predicted and in this area shops were boarded and drifters many. Churches had wiring across their gates telling patrons to return at a later date. I was approached by an angry disheveled man and was grateful to have psychiatric nursing skills, thereby loosing him. As foretold, it was disconcerting.

The Denver Museum of Art was open, however, being tailed as a single patron throughout my visit was nerve wracking. I noted those in groups of 2 or more did not have the same observance. Did they think I was going to steal something? Actually, this is the first museum of which I abhorred the collection. The arrangement of the articles was poor and their modern art I detested. However, here are a few items I found of interest.

The traveling Freida Kahlo exhibit was fascinating and when it arrives in your area take time to visit. It is extensive and well cataloged giving an interesting depiction of two painters.

Some paintings of Diego..

And another self portrait.

Hope you are able to catch this exhibit when it comes to your town..

To Denver

This is a blog about what I do.

The American Airlines flight to Denver was full with customers masked and all socially distancing as much as possible. Arrived on a sunny day and the view from the clean airplane window was spectacular. Deplaning is conducted row by row and assists in keeping passengers safe.

Once inside the airport was welcoming and festive.

Some interesting retail venues and bars..

Never saw a lottery machine like this one.. Had to insert your driver’s license to buy the ticket.

The Christmas decorations were entertaining and different.

And of course the dogs going home for the holidays..

Took the train connection into the City which is frequent, fast, clean, and reasonable.

However, the trip into the City was not as expected. Denver has been hard hit with the Pandemic. Colonies of tents are built along the train tracks leading into the City. It is similar to the days of the Great Depression. Trash is everywhere along the tracks. One wonders if this trash with cause further infection control issues. It was a disturbing site to see. Those on the train warned me of what I was to experience upon visiting Denver and to protect myself. While always a cautious traveler I was grateful to be warned, however, greatly saddened to hear their accounts.

These were mild representations. Denver is having many challenges.

December 2020 Journey
Welcome to orlando florida Royalty Free Vector Image

Began my trip to Denver at the Orlando Airport. Was pleased to see all masked at this airport. Apparently, Mayor Buddy Dyer, who has been at the reigns of the City of Orlando for the last 17 years, has issued a city mask mandate. This is repeated every 5 minutes via the airport intercom. All hand sanitizer stations were filled and the airport squeaky clean. A hat’s off to Mayor Buddy. Someday I must meet this man as feel like I know him since I have heard his announcements so often. Shout out to TSA who were pleasant and professional. Good job, Orlando!

Flew American to Denver for a measly $130. Had a stop over in Dallas Fort Worth Airport. Since I don’t recall being there I took this time to review the sites during my short layover. It is your typical generic airport with shops and food stops. What was different was the many information booths alerting visitors of venues and their locations. Direction is good and necessary..

DFW has a rail to the City for those who need this service.

But back to retail.. Here’s a new shop that I haven’t seen elsewhere. Since I’m not a sports person have no idea who this guy is, but if a fan make a stop.

Some of the other shops,

and a few food spots,

along with a CVS machine, which I have only seen in Austin, TX, Airport, and is needed in all airports.

Ads rotated on every airport column. Some ads had a Texas feel with pictures of the plains and cowboy boots,

but my favorite was those that acknowledged airport workers.. They certainly are heroes. If only their salaries reflected that.

And will close with a dog returning home for the holidays..

Next, to Denver..

Gratitude

Radio Free New Hampshire: And The Bucket Of Warm Spit Award Goes To ... | Nashua, NH Patch

Watching the inaugural of President Joseph Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris I was filled with pride. History has been made with the first female Vice President. And to add to the mix she is black, Asian, and the daughter of immigrants. So much of what she engenders is what makes our country great. Then President Biden with his 47 years of experience in federal government, known to all our international friends, and a strong advocate for women.

I am grateful.

Niche, Niche, Niche

Today I received an email out of the blue from Dusty with a wordpress id stating I need to develop a niche. Since I haven’t written in 6 weeks I was surprised and violated by this email as who has given him my email address? In the 4 years I have been writing I’ve received 6 comments, and only through the site. While most were nasty and derogatory my daughter did write a fond critique and for that she was rewarded royally..

So while I know the definition of niche – specialized segment of the market for a particular product or service, (in case you don’t know), I have contemplated Dusty’s thoughts. However, the purpose of my writings is to reflect on what a senior gal thinks and does and quite frankly this is all over the board. If a fellow senior does come across my blog perhaps as they read might think – maybe I could take that trip, try that exercise, feng shui my house, or nice to know someone else has computer challenges, and finally gee never knew of that historic woman. Perhaps the blog will inspire a senior to think they could take that trip, pick up a book to learn more of that historic woman, or even exercise.

Thanks, Dusty for your email. Please block my web site. Bye.
