Rogue’s Tavern Lansing, New York

Bad Picture – but the colors of the sky priceless..

Came across this historic landmark driving to Ithaca, and thought I’d stop on the return flight to check it out. So glad I did. Great history, service, and food amazing. Had their chili which was the best I’ve ever had.

Here’s the history..

The Tavern building which also has an Inn..

Entry to the Pub and Inn is located to the rear of the building.

The interior was decorated in 1950 decor.

Food was tasty and menu included salads, sandwiches, and full meals.

Know I’ll stop for a full meal on my next trip to Ithaca when I tour Cornell.

Let’s close with another gorgeous Ithaca sunset.

Ithaca Waterfalls

After the debacle of internet, toilets, and insurance, decided I needed a get away.Β  Drove to Ithaca, 35 miles south of Auburn, to view their waterfalls and for some nature relief.

First stop Buttermilk Falls, what a beauty and here are three views.

Next,  Treman Falls, another beauty at Robert Treman State Park just a couple miles down the road from Buttermilk.

Final destination Ithaca Falls.  WOW!

Check out the color of the sky. Reminded me of the Sistine Chapel and Michaelangelo’s colors.

Water is power..

Monday Blues

Writing this on Wednesday, and the saga continues..

If only it would rain that would make this a perfect awful Monday, however, wait..  I like rain.

Woke Monday morning after 3 hours of sleep with an 8:30 a.m. phone call from my daughter.  I never in my life recall a phone call at that time from her, so I took it.  She updated me on her latest work concern, and apologized for calling that early.

Another first, but she’s 40 now, and things change.

Had been trying to connect to the internet till 3:30 a.m. Monday morn with no success.  Spoke with the nameless vendor who was rude and arrogant, then the weekend desk staff at the Hall, who was also unable to assist, and my actions were fruitless.

πŸ‰

The Monday morning staff made many attempts to assist but were unable.  Even the maintenance man tried for an hour and he could not connect either the television nor the computer.   Why I had internet for 3 weeks and now had stopped was concerning or is it disconcerning – I never can figure that one out..

Inspecting the apartment utility closet revealed broken router connections with the equipment fallen off their shelving.  I also learned the building is on cloud service and I am not on the cloud?.  Am unsure how to connect to this cloud, however, a technician has been requested to visit the site.  While they were due Monday, another Tuesday call ensured a Wednesday a.m. visit.

As I bid adieu to the maintenance man I use the loo.  The toilet waters rise to the top and this is not a pretty site.  I attempt to flush using extra water and this does not work making the scene uglier.  It is now lunchtime and all those who could help are at lunch.

If only roses appeared from this mess..

I drive to the store for a super plunger and find an item which claims to be unstoppable, is.  It does not work.  This $10 item with an air pump attached to the plunger suction cup does not resolve the crisis.  Forced to use the air pump merely as a stick to plunge the situation resolution occurs in 15 minutes but the bathroom a unsanitary mess.

I clean the area and myself, and am on to the library.

Here I find the condo insurance I purchased needing more information to seal the deal.  I am told I need a wind inspection.  Never had that criteria but perhaps this came from the special florida insurance sessions?  Who knew, as more time is spent in florida government on banning books, gays, punishing Disney, and ending Black History courses.  And they want to make this guy prez? I digress..

I contact the condo manager, former insurance company, and new insurance company for more information. The former insurer sends me an email saying I have this coverage. Will this work or do I need another $150 inspection? Later I receive a report from the condo manager. I forward all to the new insurer along with proof of property ownership and cross my fingers.

🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞🀞

I receive a call from another insurance broker who states the company I am going with is defunct, and she can only offer a policy which is $970 a year so I best go with the company who doubled my rates to $780.  I enlighten her that the company with the $503 rate has confirmed via email that I have a policy.  A teaching moment for this broker. How could she not know this???????????.

I call the new $503 insurer and am told they are in business but the vendor who sells the policy is starting the policy 3/11 rather than 3/1.  We call the vendor and an Asian woman with broken English responds.  She says she will connect us to a licensed broker and this does not occur.

The friendly $503 insurer customer service staff says she must end the call, however, I cannot hear her as we now have loud music playing over our connection.  After 3 minutes of screaming the music ends.  She states I have a policy and I email the required documents to their endorsement division.

I have a policy!  Let us hope.

On to finding the whereabouts of my W-2s for my taxes.. The adventure continues with a 180 minute wait time for tech services, 80 for customer service, and a contact form which will not accept my information though formatted correctly.

I will write a letter.

Feng Shui: Valentine Magic

Happy Valentine’s Day.

Here are a few Feng Shui tips to spice up the bedroom. And for those disbelievers, try one of the tips, and prepare for magic.

  • Have artwork that is romantic, coupled or with a theme of “2” in your bedroom. No singles or solitary pics of flowers, peoples, or any other entity. How I hate those pictures of solitary beach chairs. Get rid of them!!!!!!!!!!!
  • Remove photos of kids, family, and friends in your boudoir. This is the spot for only pictures of the two of you.
  • Keep your bedroom clean, free from clutter, dirty clothes, exercise equipment, televisions, computers, and the like. No kitty litter.
  • Buy fresh sheets, luxurious bedding.
  • Are your night stands paired?
  • And……………………………

Keep me posted on your results.

Not My Invoice!

Received an invoice for $399. from the Geek Squad. Know of these folks but never used their service. And I certainly wasn’t going to send them $399. just because they sent an invoice as it was a blatant scam.

After the initial email received an email from 2 other people who were scammed as well. The sentiments expressed in these emails cannot be disclosed in polite company, however, their expressions mirror mine. Since the email I have been unable to access the internet in my building even though the computer states nothing is wrong. Three days later at 2:30 a.m. I received internet access again and my virus protections say I am secure.

In the last 4 months I have received 3 new charge cards.

Thank goodness for Amazon Chase, they are a wonderful charge card, but really..

Can’t anything be done to get these scammers??

Sew What!

On this rainy day decided to visit the historic Willard Chapel, and view the last known Tiffany Chapel. As a resident of St. Augustine, Florida, Tiffany is ingrained in my blood with the amazing windows of the now Flagler College.

Since arriving 10 minutes early the docent directed me to the following shop which is in the church office area. This amazing shop takes yarn, fabric, and needlepoint kit donations from the area, and points reaching New York City, and beyond.

What a treasure trove of goodies reasonably priced, and ready for the taking.

Here are some pictures of the shop.

Left here with an enormous bag filled to the brim for $40. I have enough fabric and things to do till I die!

Here’s their information and website: https://www.sewwhatcny.org/

They also have classes. Check out the web site for specifics.

Schweinfurth Art Center

Visited this Art Center today and enjoyed the works of children as well as seniors. Let’s start with the seniors and go backward. All the art was done by local folks and inspiring.

The Senior Collection – the Art Center has a Quilting By the Lake summer event and several of the wall hangings were quilted pieces.

The Center gives many classes and painting is one of their workshops.

High School Students

Students from 5th Grade to 8th

Montessori Students

BOCES Students

Really enjoyed this show.

Auburn certainly has some very talented artists.

Cayuga Wine Trail

Stopped at 4 wineries today. Was fun, but pricey. Tastings are $12 for 6 wines, with wines costing $16 to $29.

First stop was the Swedish Hill Vineyard, and while it was to be open, it wasn’t, however, enjoyed seeing the Vineyard on this sunny, crisp day. But in the future will call ahead, and recommend that to others. However, as you drive through the many vineyards it is likely you will find one open.

The Tasting Room, Vineyards, and delivery truck for the Vineyard. This Vineyard has won the Governor’s Cup three times!

Will have to return on a weekend.

Knapp Winery

Of the four wineries this was my favorite. Bought their Port wine, very good. Acquired a taste for Port when in Portugal and this wine gave Portugal a bit of a run for their money. Also enjoyed their NV Pasta Red Reserve, $18. and the sweeter version NV Pasta Red rs. 2.3% $15. All the wineries have Wine Clubs and with Knapp 3 bottles give 5% OFF, 6 -7% off, and 12-10% off.

Looks like a fun line up with music planned for the season, and only 30 minutes outside of Auburn. Will be visiting Knapp again.

Leaving Knapp drove down a steep incline only to come upon the mesmerizing Cayuga Lake.

She is bewitching!

Next stop… Hosmer Winery

Since I only drink red I limit the tastings to that brew. Purchased a bottle of Estate Red as the vanilla hints tickled my palate.

Montezuma Winery

This Winery is a bit of a gem with its quaint store and fantastic location – just down the road from the Waterloo Outlets. Here I met a well versed server and enjoyed the company of another couple who were tasting. While I didn’t purchase any wine will return at a later date for Penuche Fudge – my all time favorite and difficult to find.

What a wonderful day!

Fort Hill Cemetery

What a spectacular cemetery and a must see for those cemetery enthusiasts. Here many prominent figures rest in peace.

The Chapel is at the beginning of the cemetery. While closed, was able to get a glimpse and picture of the Tiffany stained glass windows. Tiffany did much work in this area during this era.

The Cemetery began in 1851 with 22 acres, and the Chapel contains 14 Tiffany stained glass windows.

If you ever have the good fortune to visit the Cemetery, take a picture of this map to locate the sites of graves not to miss..

Some interesting headstones..

The Corning Family Plot

The Jewish section of the Cemetery. When people visit these headstones they leave a stone on top of the stone as a visit

remembrance.

The Seward Family Plot

The Harriet Tubman Plot – several family members are also interred around her. Note the heart of pinecones in front of the stone.

The Fay Family Mausoleum

The Fay family were industrialists who began their businesses selling gloves and mittens.

The Case Willard Family Plot – They began their fortunes in starch, and later their son, Theodore, a chemist, invented talkies.

What a fascinating tour of historical prominence.

Genesee Street Stroll

The architecture of this stroll is one that is rarely found in a few city blocks..,

First stop, the Cayuga County Court House Building.

This majestic building was first built as a frame building in 1809, however, the present building was erected in 1836. From 1922-1924 it was reconstructed. Unable to visit the interior, one can only imagine its grandeur.

Across the street the Postal Building..

And sharing the block, the Episcopal Church of St. Peter and John.

Fun Fact: Red doors on an Episcopal Church signify the church is paid for, mortgage free.

Pomeroy and William Seward were brothers-in-law and owned adjacent homes on Owasco Lake, one of the New York State Finger Lakes. Both men were lawyers, and close friends of Harriet Tubman. She cared for the Pomeroy children. At Pomeroy’s death it is stated on the Pomeroy Park signage only Harriet’s flowers and note were buried with him in his casket.

This library was left by Willard Case, the father of Theodore Case, who invented the “talkies.” Willard’s wealth was acquired through the development of the Oswego Starch Factory, and through subsequent wise investing.

Sad to read this prominent Women’s Rights organizers home was razed, but as with many of these home termites often ate through wood structures. This also occurred in Flagler’s Home in St. Augustine, Florida.

The War of 1812 was a 3 year conflict between Britain and the United States. The reason for the War was left over concerns from the revolution regarding maritime and trade issues as well as expansionist concerns. It is viewed as largely a political war.

This is the Cayuga County Art and History Museum. It was formerly the Willard Case Residence. While currently closed. it will re-open in March. To learn more of this home check out the following website,

A House Through History: A Brief History of the Willard-Case Mansion

Besides the County Museum artifacts, the Case Research lab is here, as well as a carriage house movie theater.

Look forward to this tour come March 2023.

Next: Fort Hill Cemetery.
